The other thing about Vermeil is that he is a nice emotional guy and not a distant intellectual like Walsh or Gibbs or a overbearing ball-buster like Parcells and Lombardi. The way football is characterized, it's difficult for critics to accept Vermeil's personality and consider him a great coach.
