High schoolers graduating early bebate

Saw this debate on a different forum and thought I'd carry it over
here.

What do you guys think of the following scenarios:

a) a high school kid with good academic standing decides he'd rather
graduate a semester early and join his college team for their spring
drills.

b) a coach tells a high school kid it would be helpful if he graduated
early and got some spring practice in.

Do you have any problems with either?
