Canadian Thanksgiving comes earlier because we are further north, and the growing season ends earlier than in the US. Therefore, Canadian Thanksgiving comes earlier. And the CFL season ends earlier as well, because the season starts earlier. Had the season started later, say, as the same time as the NFL, (at labout day) we would be playing the Championship game in about 10 weeks, meaning, it would be close to the holidays, and, more importantly, in the middle of a deep freeze. In fact, about half of the games would be played in a deep freeze, and nobody would go to them. (there is only one indoor Stadium in Canada that get's used on a regular basis, and it's in the only city in Canada that never really gets cold). And when I say Deep-freeze, I mean DEEP-FREEZE. Temperatures in Edmonton, Calgary, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, Montreal, and even Hamilton and Toronto dip into (and stay in) the -30's and 40's for long stretched, fairly regularily, come december and January. The short answer to both your questions?, It's Canada, and it starts getting very very cold in November.
