London, Ontario's Chris Daw has been the skip to beat as the 2003 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championships completed the four team double round robin stage at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club. The Daw rink, with three silver medalists from the inaugural World Championship held in Switzerland in 2002, eased to a 5 and 1 record, and will play Kelowna's Gerry Austgarden, who defeated felllow BC skip Jim Shannon in a tie-breaker, after overcoming a 0-3 round robin deficit. With the advantage of home ice and his international experience, Daw is favoured to win the gold but BC's Austgarden's confidence must be high having blanked Daw 8-0 without the hammer in Draw 5, . The ice has been reported as keen though straight The final will be held Saturday November 15th at 3 PM eastern. In the consolation game BC's Shannon plays Ontario's Gregory for the bronze. The gold medalists will become Team Canada and represent their country at the World Wheelchair Championships in Switzerland next January.
