I'd have to say the 60's were overall better than the 70's. The 70's did have Ali and his epic bouts against Foreman and Frazier, but as a whole, it was lacking. Take away Ali, and it would be lacking, as it is today. The 60's had Liston, Ali (in his prime!), Patterson, Johanson, Zora Foley, Eddie Machen, Cleveland Williams (a faded version), Henry Cooper (has there ever been a better bleeder? ;-> ), Ernie Terrell (as much as some did not like him), Quarry, Thad Spencer, Oscar Bonavena, Joe Frazier, Jimmy Ellis and ? IMO, the 60's had better schooled HW's than did the 70's. It seems the skill level of the big men in boxing has been steadily dropping since then.
