Was it Ron who plays with a small diameter shaft? If so, did you go
through the same kind of transition when you switched?
It was me -- I switched to a 10 mm tip a little over a year ago and
really like it. My experiences have been pretty much like yours: an
immediate feeling of greater precision in tip placement resulting in
heightened awareness and control (who knows whether the chicken or egg
came first?).
There was a transition due to reduced squirt, but not a long one. I
overestimated the reduction in squirt, but adapted correctly to it
anyway -- I thought I was aiming closer to "true" than I was. It has
taken a while to get the real squirt and my over-optimistic perception
of it in line with each other.
The only real downside has been that I tend to put more sidespin on the
CB just because I can (due, I suppose, to being able to more reliably
hit farther from center and to more reliably hit the contact point
because of less squirt) and because it's fun. It's a struggle to play
as conservatively as before, even though I know I should.
