All coaches need to win with their recruits to keep getting the good players. If they do that, the recruits keep on coming. New coaches like Frese often start off with great classes. Curry signed the number 1 class for Purdue before she coached a minute of college ball. Balcomb signed the number one class this year to Vandy. DeMoss is doing very well at Ky. Ditto Foster at Ohio State. Coaches get a " benefit of the doubt" year it seems. In Curry's case, she fell off after her first big class, and is just now building back up. No doubt that would not have happened if Purdue had sunk to the middle of the Big 10. Bottom line - things will get much, much tougher for Frese if Maryland can't compete for ACC titles, and easier if they beat Duke consistently. The rich certainly get richer in that regard.
