Exactly where she will find employment remains to be seen. Fortner, formerly of New Braunfels High School and the University of Texas, resigned as coach of the WNBA's Indiana Fever last Friday. She said in a telephone interview that she intends to work again either as a coach in the WNBA or in college basketball. "I'm fine," she said, a few days after her three-year tenure with the Fever came to an end. "I feel great. I'm ready to take on the next challenge in my life. Coaching is something that's always been motivating for me. The challenge - I enjoy that. I look forward to the next one." Fortner said she has not talked with the San Antonio Silver Stars, who are looking to name a permanent replacement for Candi Harvey. Harvey was fired in midseason last summer, and assistant Shell Dailey took over on an interim basis. "I would always be interested in coming back to Texas, for sure," said Fortner, who coached the United States team to a gold medal in the 2000 Olympic Games. "That's something that I would always be interested in." Clarissa Davis-Wrightsil, the Silver Stars' chief operating officer, could not be reached for comment. A spokesman said the team hoped to name a coach in the "next week or two." Fortner had a 42-56 record in three seasons with the Fever, which included one postseason appearance, in 2002. She also was head coach at Purdue in 1996-97 (17-11 record). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- [EMAIL PROTECTED] 10/03/2003
