Here's our game. Suppose you threw every player on Planet Earth into
a
pool. Everyone is available, nobody has a contract, and a draft is held today. Here's one person's mock draft, picks No. 1 through No. 13.
<snip>
TD over Shaq. TD doesn't score as many points, but his overall stats are better. He's won 2 championships to Shaq's 3, but, then again, look who Duncan's supporting cast is compared to Shaq's.
Hall-of-Famer David Robinson? Ginobli? Parker? Rose? No Bryants, but once you get past Kobe, the Lakers have none of these.
Total Points last year: Kobe 2461 Robinson PLUS Parker PLUS Ginobili 2340
Rebounds? Assists? Blocked shots?
Why don't you compare the rebounds, blocks, and assists of robinson,
parker
and ginobli to kobe and the lakers next 2 best players? It doesn't
really
make sense to compare all those 3 to just kobe, even though the point scoring comparison was mildly amusing.
That was my approach to begin with. It is AFTER Bryant that the Laker talent level took a big drop.
That's probable, but you can't just compare the stats of one player to three. Even with the drop-off, I'd guess that the Lakers next 2 plus Bryant would still probably be better than the spurs 3. And to look at a supporting cast, you have to to look at more than just 3 players by the way..
