I'm obviously confused about the rule. I thought if a defender was positioned inside the "arc" they could not receive a charging foul call. In other words, standing under the basket, or "running into the player" wouldn't be any benefit to the defense. I've yet to see an entire game where this call was made consistently - but that may be my personal problem. I agree that the arc should be removed, and player/control fouls should be called more directly. There's way too many offensive fouls being called where there's a minimum of contact (and no advantage gained) and too many defensive fouls called simply by location on the court. Chris!!
