Are pickup players ignorant or just stupid?

I play alot of pickup basketball. I'm basically a "garbage" player
that has had no formal training. Despite this fact, I can ball with
some very good players from different levels of organized ball. I
realize that most recreational players can do the same. The problem
that I keep seeing is that most guys are one man teams. They don't
pass, set picks, and take the most ridiculous shots over and over.
There is always at least two of these guys on each team. Most of the
time there is a player that actually should be taking the majority of
the shots but that player never gets the ball because these asses are
too busy trying to create low percentage one man plays. These players
take most of the fun out of the game. My question is are they ignorant
of basic basketball strategy, which everyone should know regardless of
their skill level, or are they macho or something else? I don't know.
