Jason, I stand corrected - Your analysis is far superior to Dickie V's. However, my original premise stands. To expand my first thoughts: I would hope the purpose of a play-by-play commentator and/or color commentator/analyst (the "broadcast team") is to enhance the viewers enjoyment and understanding of the game whether it be basketbal, football, hockey, tiddlie winks or what ever. IMHO Vitale detracts far more from the game than he ever adds to it. I don't believe his understanding of the nuances of the game is that deep - otherwise why would he go on all these tangents all the time that have absolutely nothing to do with the game. It's all smoke and mirrors - no substance what-so- ever!!! I guess I'm just tired of all the childish hype. A perfect example: Last night he had to to keep going on and on about Brad Doherty and what a great guy he is and how he deserves another chance and blah, blah blah - on and on. I bet the folks in Chapel Hill just love Dickie rehashing that crap. Oh yeah, I forgot his inciteful "You gotta make da freethrows! You gotta make da freethrows!" near the end of the game. No shit Sherlock! JEEEEEZ! How much is he getting for making these salient points? I could train a chimp do a better job. It's just sickening that ESPN (who I thank from the bottom of my heart for putting college hoops on the map) still keep this bozo on as their #1 buffoon (oops color commentator). Yeah, he's a REAL PTPer - Prime Time Putz!! Sorry to get so carried away! Thanks for listening. My best, Larry Bradenton, FL
