Actually that's not true.  There are no free throws awarded in this scenario
since it falls under the "Team Control" definition of "Common foul committed
by player on team with team control or possession of the ball for a
throw-in."  It's a spot throw-in, afterward.  I work as Timer for a D-I
school and that was instituted last year, I believe. It's reviewed in nearly
every pre-game meeting with the floor officials.
