If I wanted to talk football, I could have located a different group than this. :) So let me rephrpase, and see whether I can tease out some discussion on the point I thought was central: why is MLB's PR so poor that a tie in an All Star exhibition game draws a snap reaction of "see?!? here is why baseball is dying, lazy ballplayers, incompetent commissioner, yadda yadda" from the opinion shapers in the media, while a tie in an important golf tournament adds luster in the eyes of at least this one writer? (I haven't kept up with further golfing reports to see whether there has emerged an anti-Nicklaus backlash by now.) The easy answer is to say that it's not the same individuals who bashed baseball and lauded golf for their respective ties, so there's no direct double standard; but does it go no deeper than that? "Can't say I'm surprised to see YOU here, Ubiquitous Bob."
