   It was football.

Current college football rules provide for unlimited overtimes. Each
team gets one possession, starting on the opponent's 25 yard-line, in
each overtime (analogous to extra innings in baseball, except the teams
take turns "batting" first). Play continues until an overtime ends with
something other than a tied score. [I believe that, starting with the
third overtime, a team which scores a touchdown must attempt a two-point
conversaion.]

FWLIW, I hate the overtime rule. I believe that ties are, and should
be, part of college football (and also hockey).
