If 75 wins are needed, then 5 years of 15 >(which he's done, what, 16 straight years now?) is certainly possible. While I'd love to see Maddux do this, unfortunately he has shown some signs of decline the past couple of years--notably his K rate has dropped sharply. For more than 10 years it had been pretty consistently 6-7 per 9 innings, and the last two seasons it's down to about 5. Spahn's K rate (which interestingly was never very high) didn't begin to drop off till he was 40. He did manage to have 3 good seasons at ages 40-42. Maddux has had one good and one mediocre season. Also, he only pitches 6-7 innings per start, making it hard to get 20 Ws. I'm guessing he has one or at most two seasons left in him, 15-30 wins. -- Jim New York, NY (Please remove "nospam." to get my e-mail address) http://www.panix.com/~kahn
