The Real Bev wrote: <snip> First of all, relax. Global warming is a natural phenomenon - the world climate runs in cycles over millions of years. The reason I say this is that, contrary to what the UN and others say, the CO2 component of the atmosphere is really tiny. A more likely culprit is the slight variations of the earth's orbit around the sun. Man in his ultimate level of ignorance often thinks that things such as this are under his control and can't accept it when they aren't. Unfortunately the UN has hardly been objective in all of this. The Kyoto treaty was essentially a wealth redistribution plan that was going to virtually shut down economies of the industrialized world. There is a reason that the US Senate voted 95-0 to reject the treaty back during Clinton's term in office. The rules that applied to us were not applicable to countries like China and India. It was a ludicrous attempt. The fact is that there are many components that influence climate change (it is so complex that no computer models are in existence that can retroactively predict events that actually occurred) we really don't have a definitive idea about the primary contributors. If orbital variations are the chief reason then CO2 levels are meaningless. Knowledge is the key and consensus means nothing - remember over time the vast consensus of scientists at one time or another thought the world was flat, the earth was the center of the solar system, diseases were transmitted through the night air - the list is endless. Granted we have better measuring equipment and more understanding but the fact remains we are missing an enormous amount of knowledge and these so-called predictions are pure speculation.
