While "shortwave" seems more of a technical description for HF (how is someone unfamiliar with radio to distinguish between longwave, mediumwave, shortwave, microwave, etc.?), "world band" appears to be a better term for conveying the idea that international broadcasts are heard on the HF bands. (Of course, there's more on shortwave than just international broadcasts.) -- M2
