True, but -- while relays aren't exactly that horribly reliable, long-term -- for transistor-driver applications it's not at all surprising to see components used that would fry if left on full-time. For instance, you often see drive transistors for the ringers of cell phones that would be operating above their rated specs if they were turned 'on' 100% of the time, yet such a design is still practical for the sake of cost savings and miniaturization in a that type of product. ---Joel Kolstad
