Davis' has a fairly decent description of the process. The secret seems to be the use of several thousand PSI of pressure and careful control of the solvent, resulting in a flexible, yet non-sticky cord that can be cut into grains or even coiled up as rope in drums for later processing. -- Eirik M I see fragged people
