GWP Contest Dec 2003

For those of you working the GWP Tera-Marching Bands Contest (Dec
2003), I have a question regarding the instructions ...

Once the grid has been filled, would the instructions imply that the
hidden question begins with the letter in upper left-hand corner of
the grid or in one of the 8 grid squares that are 3 spaces from that
upper left-hand corner?

Kind of a cryptic message for those who aren't familiar with the
puzzle.

Anyone replying in this thread please take care not to post spoilers.
