I don't know, it just is. ;-) Seriously, I think there are quite a lot of differences and one thing that I do know is that The Chambers Dictionary has the definitions of a lot of Scottish words. I suspect they are missing form the 21 century edition. I'm sure it's not a bad dictionary but it's not the one that many setters use. Tim -- Remove the obvious to reply by email.
