methinks thee doth protest too much ;-) Or maybe it is me? ;-) if VHB had nearly a decade of sales of the failure prone focal plane shutter models 1000/1600f early on, why did they come out with yet another focal plane shutter model with shutter related problems, i.e., 2000F series? ;-) Esp. since a number of then extant models had cloth focal plane shutters which had proven quite reliable and rugged in pro use (i.e., bronica S2A etc. ;-) VHB didn't have any problem with a dual line in which they had a focal plane shutter model (2000f..) with problems, working at it until they fixed those problems. They have both now, plus the H series, so I don't see why they could not have had both in the past ;-) if hasselblad had kept the focal plane models, they could have competed directly against bronica. There is no reason they had to use zeiss lenses for the f/p bodies (they used kodak early on etc.). Zeiss lenses were picked early on as they were cheaper than kodak; the huge price inflation has been since then. The original goal wasn't to have the most costly lenses, rather the best for the $$, which is why VHB went to Zeiss to start, despite a long relationship of Victor H. with Kodak in Sweden etc. VHB could have had both f/p and leaf shutter models then, as they do now. the big benefit of leaf shutter flash synch isn't in the studio, where 35mm users are able to control lighting, esp. ambient light, but rather outdoors, where bright light yields ghosting for the standard wedding and similar shots. That's why wedding types go for leaf shutter lenses, such as the new H1 hasselblad over the focal plane competitors in AF ;-) and the 500c/m series, and the koni omega and so on ;-) I would be interested in more info on the hasselblad russian MF connection ;-) grins bobm -- *********************************************************************** * Robert Monaghan POB 752182 Southern Methodist Univ.
