Looking for good aps camera

Hi

I'm in the market for a good aps camera for my brother as a gift who wants a
basic and simple camera.  I'd like to get him one that is reliable and takes
decent pictures.  My searching on the internet is somewhat confusing.  Opinions
vary widely. The highest ratings I saw were for the SLR models with
interchangeable lenses that I don't want.  Although I realize it is subjective,
any thoughts on a decent brand and model?
