Re: Bulbs for old-tyme enlargers?

David,

There is an outfit in Nevada (Reno, I think) called The Bulbman (www.bulbman.com). Friends of mine have used them for bulbs for old slide projectors, and I have bought bulbs for my ancient Beseler 4 x 5 there. It's worth a shot.

A comment by Richard K. about bulbs for Elwood enlargers prompts my question: does anyone know where I can get a bulb to fit my Elwood 5x7?

Don't bother suggesting the following sites:

Replacement Light Bulbs (http://www.replacementlightbulbs.com/index.html)
Don's Bulbs (http://www.donsbulbs.com/cgi-bin/r/t.pl)

I've already checked them and come up empty-handed.

Richard says that these enlargers took 300 to 500-watt bulbs. (I believe he was referring to the 8x10 models.) This may be, but I managed to find an oversize 150-watt bulb that seems to work fine; it gives me enough light to focus by easily and gives reasonable exposure times. I only had to scrape off the printing on the end to make it work. After adjusting the up-and-downness of the bulb (the socket moves within the reflector), I get very even coverage, as proven by blank test prints.

The bulb must be an oversize bulb (longer compared to a normal household bulb), in order to put it at the upper node of the elliptical reflector. (Don's Bulbs lists this enlarger as taking either a PH300 (150W) or PH301 (300W), both of which are out of print.)

Any help here would be much appreciated. I need to find something like an old guy with a basement full of oddball light bulbs.
