Re: Whoop! I got my boa!!!

Congrats Jenn. Boas are my favorite snakes! I can't imagine life without
mine. Sure the colubrids are OK but boas & blood pythons RULE! I only
have my 12 boa breeders until the next breeding season. I miss the
little guys. I haven't been around the NG much as I've been busy. I also
had to have my best friend put to sleep secondary to obsessive
compulsive disorder. It came on very suddenly & none of the meds did any
good. She was only 3 yrs old & such a beautiful little dog. The illness
was so intense it seemed like she was having seizures. My vet was
wonderful. I think he knew that we couldn't save her before I was
willing to admit it. However my last night with her was pure hell & I
knew what had to be done for her. I had lost the battle despite
antidepressants, an antipsychotic & large doses of valium. She didn't
show any signs of improvement & was getting worse despite treatment.
Again congrats on your new boa Jenn. While I like some colubrids I adore
the boids! snake lady

Thanks! I got to spend some time with Tina tonight while watching a movie. She started out squirmy, then went for about 20 minutes without moving a muscle, then got squirmy again. She seems to be getting along with my cats. One of my cats sat a foot away from us and just yawned at Tina (ironically, she's the one scared of people). Another one didn't come close, and acted a bit spooked. The only tense moment was when a third cat decided Tina was some sort of interactive toy and jumped on my lap next to her. Tina started and made an openmouthed lunge at Fluffy. She didn't try to hit, though, and later totally ignored the cat. The fourth cat just seemed jealous that somebody else had my lap. Tina never showed any aggression at me, even when she spooked. Progress!

I'm sorry your poor dog had to be euthanized. :-( I've never experienced a psychological disorder in a companion animal. It sounds like she was having a very hard time, and you did what had to be done.

Jennifer
