I don't know if they all would hunt mice but I do know, that we have never had a mouse with having ferrets in the house. Their scent is supposed to scare off other rodents. We were renting a house before we bought our house now and we couldn't have the ferrets and we had mice, as soon as we brought them in, they were gone. Ferrets are great. You have to ferret proof your house mostly as far as inconvience but to us it is second nature. Also it is helpful if all animals get along...hehe Ours were all raised together so we don't have any issues. I would definitely put her in a 'crate' when you are gone. As long as the ferret has water, food, a litter box and a blanket to sleep in, she should be fine. And it is true, a bored or idle ferret finds trouble and openings in a jiffy!!
