What is narrowest space they can slip thru?

I have three Furries now, I adopted two more tho keep Rascal company, for
which he was NOT so happy, but now he gets along, they all pile in a shoe
box to sleep. So now I have Rascal, Roxy and Rusty. When I found out their
names I knew it was meant to be. Any hoo, My little female can slip under
the sofa and it's only about a 1/2 inch opening. They way I see it, if they
can get their nose in the rest of them can follow. Had a scare last night,
Roxy slipped upstairs, and I went to get her and she was no where to be
found. I did however find a hole in my floor where the Gas line comes in
that I didn't know was there. So I was outside til 1am with a flashlight
and sqeaking the toy I use to call them up (thank goodness I don't have any
close neighbors), It was about 35f degrees outside and I had to give up
before I froze. I stopped up the hole just in case she was still in the
house, I set up their old cage by where she might have got out, which was
also 14 feet off the gound. I have 10 cats and three dogs all cuddle up
under the house so I was so afraid that if she was out therem she wouldn't
have much of a chance. Needless to say I didn't any sleep last night. I
kept trying to listen for any sign she was int the house or noise from
outside. I got up finally and started my search all over in the house,
afraid what I might find outside. To my relief, she was in my son's room
on his top bunkbed, curled up and happy to see me. All I could do was hold
her and cry. I've only had the two new ones for about two months, but as
the movie line goes " you had me at hello" well, they had me the moment I
saw them.
I put a bell collar on her and I'll spend the day today looking for more
"holes" and fixed it where she can't get upstairs. So as I said if they can
get their nose in it, more than likely the rest of them will follow.
Save yourself the sleepless night and keep her in a cage if your not around.
And be sure to put a bell on her so if you can't see her, you can at least
hear her.
