I have just found a ferret in my backyard. My 4 dachshunds were on the verge of doing what they were bred to do! I want to know if this sounds like a plan: I now have it in a small pet carrier inside a sweatshirt sleeve. Bought a water bottle and some ferret FortiDiet Kaytee brand. I do have a large training crate. It is probably intended for up to 30-40lb dog, about 30in tall and 4x2ft. The thing is I am in the middle of major house redo and its 'back yonder'. It will take me a day to reclaim it. I have no litter box, much less litter. I am thinking of shredding some newspaper for it to go in. I have lots of different sizes of Rubbermaid containers to use as a box. I will go to the homes in the vicinity of my backyard to see if someone lost it accidentally. I am concerned that it might be reclaimed by someone who let it loose intentionally. Had that happen before with a Basenji pup. Now there are stray dogs that look half Basenji! It is not out of the question that I would keep it. How do they do with small dogs if trained to not maul it? I cannot afford much more investment right now. How much do ferret vaccinations cost? Is the large crate I described suitable? I am frazzled with my home and 4 dogs now. I just want the best for it. Lisa
