If you do decide to create an outdoor pen, be careful to watch the temperature outside. Ferrets should never be exposed to temps above 85 degrees as they can very easily get heat exhaustion and die. We have a back yard that is enclosed by a concrete block fence. We let the ferrets go out a play at night when the weather is cool. They love it. We have put pipes along the bushes so they can run in and out. We have to watch them like a hawk though. The youngest Karma, a little girl, had figured out how to escape the backyard my getting into the pipes used to collect water from the gutters that run into the front yard. She's a smart little devil :)
