Re: Is my bullmastiff dumb or testing me?

If there's a foot of snow, no wonder he doesn't want to leave the deck!

Khan *loves* the snow, and even he had trouble peeing when we had the blizzard in February that dumped 20 inches of snow. He would try to lift his leg to pee, but his unmentionables were still too close to the snow for him to pee comfortably.

We shovel piss paths for our dogs when the snow gets too deep for them - our chihuahuas trained us well, and our 90 lb dogs seem to appreciate the effort when the snow is up to their chests.

That's exactly what we did. Shoveled a path, about a foot wide and 40 feet long so that he can go lift his leg against the bushes. It got extended by another 30 ft. after we realized that he needed a separate poop area.

But yes, you need to go out with your dog in a foot of snow - or more - if that's what he needs in order to feel secure and become trained.

Exactly. I've always taken him out on a leash at night, no matter the heat, rain or snow.
