You guys are right about puppies having their own personalities but there are tendencies in male and female behavior. Females tend to be more independent males tend to be more dependant. That doesn't mean that you can't wind up with a velcro female and a hardheaded independent male but on the average males are more likely to shadow one around the house and females not so much; IME. Personally, I prefer female labs. When grown-up they have a seriousness about them that I really like, males I've met tend to be "goofy".
