It's not a hunger thing, its an attention getting thing I think.
Blade started doing this while our temporary living conditions caused
the four (1 human, 3 cats) of us to be confined to one room every
night. He would "scratch" at the door making it bang (stuffing a
towel in the door kept it from making the noise so he switched to the
window shades, putting them up sent him to the closet doors). He kept
this bad habit and even does it now that we are back in our own place.
He doesn't still do it every night, just once in a while now. I
tried playing with him until he was tired right before bed, I tried
having "quiet" time before bed (where I wouldn't play only give
attention), spraying/throwing pillows/loud noise only scares him away
long enough for me to doze back off (then he's back), and threatening
to "chop all four of his legs off" only makes me feel better for a
guilty second.

I guess if he had kept it up every night like it was in the beginning
I would take it more seriously. Now it is just an infrequent hassle.
