I am so very glad to hear that your kitty is recovering. There are so many many
many reasons - including this one - for keeping kitty inside. The Cat Fanciers
Association and many other feline groups support keeping the kitten inside. 
Why? No cars in the house..hopefully, no toxic substances to kill 'em, no wild
creatures to harm 'em, no crazed individuals who want to harm/kill 'em.
