My cat lies in wait for me, often. She takes a swipe at me and then quickly loses interest in me, hits her claw post, scratches the hell out of it, then looks right at me, with her tail all bushed up. Intense eye contact follows. I consider that one of her more healthy behaviours. It's cat play, I'd encourage it as long as the cat doesn't draw blood, your blood! Here it mostly happens in the morning and it's a great way to start the day. It lets me know she knows I'm here and thinks I'm worthy of her attention.
