MinPin Help Please?

Hi,

My neighbor has a MinPin puppy, it is approximately 8 months old. It has
begun its first period about 5 weeks ago and only drops a few drops of blood
here and there but they were told the period will only last about 3 weeks
but is lasting 5 weeks and still going. Can anyone comment on this?
Also, the puppy has two small patches of skin showing, one on her back leg
and the other on her back where she must have chewed the fur off. The owners
keep putting different creams on it, especially sun screen as they are out
in the sun a lot, but apparently the puppy just licks off the creams. Are
these skin patches related to the dogs first period? And why is the period
lasting so long? The dog's vagina seems to be hanging down much more than it
was before it began its period.
Any comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
