To them, nudity is just a way of proving no sexuality. I think it's a combination of a couple of things (more, no doubt, but I'll limit it here). First, it's a re-hashing and broader application of the female "Madonna-whore" complex many people have about significant women in their lives (especially their mothers): she is considered "holy" and above stain as the mother-figure, but <gasp> she had to have had sex in order to be my mother. Many people create a false dichotomy in which you can either be "pure" or "sexual," without entertaining the option the you can be both. Next, toss in the popular (among non-nudists) belief that "nudist colonies" exist only for the purpose of catering to swingers and exhibitionistic/voyeuristic desires. Most nudists, knowing that's not true at all (with the exception of places that really are catering to such things), tend to overreact in defense of social nudism, and so often are seen as "anti-sex." And, since you mentioned the "innocence of children," lots of anti-nudity people and groups get a lot of mileage out of this tactic. If they can convince people that nudity==sex, and "everyone" knows that children are asexual and "innocent," then the "logical" conclusion must be that we must prevent nudity in order to "saaaave the chillllldrennnnnn." > To me, a real nudist is one who can flirt and still hold an > intellectual conversation with another nudist and not feel > uncomfortable.
