it certainly is true for me.  i have to not listen to pitch when i play the
piano because i find it so horribly dissonant.   it always used to amuse me
when theory teachers at the universities would play a major third to
demonstrate the beauty of a consonant interval.  the interval sounds like a
throbbing headache to me on the piano.

strangely i am quite happy with pythagorean thirds for leading tones and the
like, and with just thirds for final cadences, etc.  equally tempered third are
just wrong to my ear and serve no good purpose.
