Form across Styles & SURVEY: perfect minatures?

I'm looking for something that may not exist: I'm looking for
a book on form which is not style-specific. I am not looking for
'Form in Tonal Music' or something on key-relationships.. I am looking
for a book which attempts to generalize these concepts as much as
possible, and which compares different styles, i.e. recapitulation in
a Beatles song vs a Beethoven symphony, phrase rhythm and expository
repition in baroque dances and in cole porter--you get the idea--why
is every book on form so style specific? There are obviously many
principles which are in operation across the board (it's always the
same species doing the listening, after all!) but has anyone bothered
to develop a study of it?

Alternatively, since i'm expecting not to find such a book
(i've looked!) and intend to begin such a study myself, i want to take
a fun SURVEY:

What pieces would you name if i asked you for examples of short pieces
with 'perfect' forms? Pieces may be in any style, with any 'formal'
asesthetic, just must be fairly short (2-3 minutes), and must be held
by yourself in the highest esteem. Give as many examples as you
like--i hope to get a nice long list of pieces to look at, both now
and in the future.
