Re: Nappy Brown Site

I just saw this on Google:
>From Bruce Grossberg:

>Interesting info from Nappy Brown's website....

>>Nappy rocketed to fame with a string of hits, was named No. 1 >>Male
Vocalist
in North America from 1954 to >>1958, toured for three years with Alan
Freed's
>>road show, and blazed new trails into R&B and soul with his powerful
>>joining of
gospel and blues. The author of >>many great hits including "Lemon Squeezin'
>>Daddy," "Well, Well Baby," and "Don't Be Angry," Nappy Brown is >>best
known for
his 1957 hit "Night Time is the >>Right Time.">>

>I didn't know that he was the # 1 male vocalist in North American for >5
straight years!!!!

>Was Presley # 2 in '56, '57 & '58 I guess?

My first reaction was: "Yeah, right"! Then I wondered : "By who"? I figured
it would have to be some R&B organization or magazine or such.

A search of the web turned up the following:

"#1 Male Vocalist in America from 1954-58, and again in 1996, by Real Blues
Magazine."

So, our mistorian is gullible enough to swallow the notion that Nappy Brown
beat out Elvis Presley and all the others who would beat him among the total
populace. Must fit into some preconceived notion of his.
