Mr. Clark is not exactly clued in to R & B. Neither am I (that is, I fail to see the alleged superiority of it), but I like FOOL, FOOL, FOOL. (Guess some singers know how to put it across better than others.) > >I would guess that you don't have a lot of her Capitol material, which is > >much better than most of the RCA stuff. Gawd BG1, when it comes to pop, your tastes are as pedestrian as they come. Her RCA stuff kicks. (Capitol records, in general, have got to be the most overrated record company of all time. Of course Kay Starr's Capitol records are a cut above the usual -- but that's due solely to the singer.) Here are my TOP TEN Kay's: ALLEZ-VOUS-EN is my favorite. WHEEL OF FORTUNE, SIDE BY SIDE, ROCK 'N' ROLL WALTZ, IF YOU LOVE ME (REALLY LOVE ME) and THE MAN UPSTAIRS would have to be included on any 10 best Kay list as well. Some Kay Starr songs I've only recently heard (and which should definitely be in the running) include: WE THREE (MY ECHO, MY SHADOW & ME), GEORGIA ON MY MIND, ROCKIN' CHAIR, I WAITED A LITTLE TOO LONG, CHANGING PARTNERS, HALF A PHOTOGRAPH, AM I A TOY OR A TREASURE, FORTUNE IN DREAMS, FOOLISHLY YOURS, IF ANYONE FINDS THIS, I LOVE YOU, GLAD RAG DOLL, A HUNDRED YEARS FROM TODAY, I WANTED A LITTLE BOY, MY BUDDY, ONCE MORE, THE PRISONER'S SONG, SECOND FIDDLE, THINGS I NEVER HAD, BLUE AND SENTIMENTAL, BLUE STARR, HELP ME, I REALLY DON'T WANT TO KNOW, IT'S A LONESOME OLD TOWN, JUST LIKE A BUTTERFLY (THAT'S CAUGHT IN THE RAIN), I LITTLE LONELINESS & NO REGRETS. And I've only heard a small fraction of her total output (and the more I hear, the higher she keeps moving up my list).
