I said I would post my impressions of the operas I attend as a newbie to the genre. So here goes... The opera was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I had never been to the Ordway Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota so my first thought was "glamorous." Seeing people arrive in limos, beautiful clothing as well as those arriving on foot and dressed casually made me feel very comfortable. Even though we had seats in the second to the last row of the gallery, I never missed a note, word or sound. The acoustics were so good, I could hear the rustle of Gilda's dress. Speaking of Gilda, the soprano who played her has a beautiful voice. I could listen to her again and again. Her name is Evelyn Pollock. The other performers were very good but she is the one person who stood out for me. The chorus was very enjoyable. Their performances added to the total production. The set was great. This particular production of Rigoletto is over. I attended last Saturday and Sunday was the last show. In preparation to attend Rigoletto, I listened to the CD several times and followed along with the words. I think it made it easier for me to watch the action without having to look at the supertitles all the time. I will try this approach again especially since the next opera's supertitles will not be in English. EM
