SUILVEN RECORDINGS NEWS OCTOBER 2003

October 27th saw the release of "Harmundum", a profoundly moving 56
minute long work by the American electro-acoustic ambient composer DAC
Crowell.

""Harmundum" explores what might happen if milliseconds became minutes
in the course of a work. The work is actually based on a rather
pedestrian chord progression, one which many of us hear variations on
every day of our lives without considering what might be within them.
But instead of passing in seconds, this mundane series of chords is
extended out...magnified, as if viewed through some sort of temporal
microscope. And just like we give a substance as mundane as water no
second thoughts, yet when we view a drop of it under a microscope we
find whole worlds within this minute drop, this work subjects a very
mundane harmonic world to that same examination in the mind's eye. And
just as in that water drop, the imagination conjures up the repeating
cadences of harmonics, hidden scales and patterns locked within what
should be a swiftly passing chord, progressions within
progressions...a world within the harmony." DAC Crowell.
