Major update at Rhythmweb - new stuff..

http://rhythmweb.com

We've fially updated rhythmweb's front page, with the top link to the frame
drum group CD. Paul has kicked butt and submitted the CD for review in a
jillipon places, including PAS..other updates include Nyabinghi drumming - A
new article by our friend Bektemba Nnamdi tells the basics of Nyabinghi
drumming, the Jamaican devotional style that forms the basis for much Reggae
and other popular Jamaican music. There are some pictures of the three drums
(thunder, funde, and repeater)There is a SHORT sound sample of Ras Michael &
the Sons of Negus demonstrating the style.

We have also updated the Jamaica page and the gourds page with numerous new
links, and added a new page on Polynesia. (I played a gig with a Samoan
style fire eater earlier this month, and it got me started on a search of
'Polynesian percussion' and gourd links.) If ye are of the Kazaa-ites, you
may want to surf 'Tatitian drumming' and the like on Kazaa. I heard a rumour
that there are some fierce tahitian sound files around..

We have added a 'mideast' page to the culture browsing options..of
course,we've long been following these things through the instrument pages,
but this will give us a place to put more general stuff, middle east and
north african music links and articles not specifically related to a frame
or goblet drum. If you have good mideast music/rhythm links for us, please
send
them our way..

Numerous other updates are up as well, all available from the front page.

We are continuing to post selected music of our friends, in many styles. Now
we have a section of selected sound files on the front page. New music now
on Rhythmweb's front page includes:

Houston based Cuban American Songwriter Tony Taboada works in both English
and Spanish. His music is very percussion friendly, with Luis "Wicho"
Ricardo handling most of the percussion work. I have known and worked with
Taboada since the 60's and he has hundreds of good original songs... here
are a couple of samples:

More: Our friend in Puerto Rico, Ivan Caceres, owner of
http://bongolandia.com , has released a new CD: Ivan Caceres y su
Bongolandia. The \CD is full of classic salsa grooves, and since Ivan
produced it, the percussion is just a tiny bit hotter in the mix than usual,
which is nice. The timabale, conga and bongo work is exceptional throughout
the CD.. here's a sample tune..go, ivan..
