Thanks for the tip. I hadn't seen the Mayah before. It is obviously aimed at
journalists and live sound pros. It's not what I'm looking for; but getting
closer.

Pros:
- Ruggedly built for field use
- Every connection you'll ever need
- Allows direct mic connection (sweet)
- PCM linear recording + MP3
- Built-in limiter

Cons:
- Way too big to carry in a pocket
- XLR jacks are excessive for prosumer use
- XLR jacks almost double the size of the unit
- Lacks AAC and WMA encoding (AAC may replace MP3)
- Type I CF slot won't accept Micro Drives

Any idea what these things cost?  I couldn't find prices.

Ok, so that's one. Any others out there, lurking in the marketing shadows?
I'm glad to see that some companies are figuring this out.
