Legendary jazz bassist Henry Grimes jammed at the landmark Lenox Lounge in NYC last night. I was lucky enough to be there to hear it. If the bass is the most easily ignored member of the band, one note by Mr. Grimes will eliminate that! His energy, sound and feeling are powerfully incandescent. He plays great lines and harmonies and i was honored and thrilled to get the chance to sit in with him.
For those who may not know, Henry Grimes, born 11/3/35 in Philadelphia, attended Julliard, played with, among others, Arnett Cobb, and Willis Jackson, Anita O.Day, Sonny Rollins, Gerry Mulligan, Benny Goodman , Lee Konitz, Sonny Rollins, Thelonious Monk, Lennie Tristano, Cecil Taylor Perry Robinson, Albert Ayler and Don Chery as well as leading his own trio.
He hasn.t been heard since the late sixties... === === === Music isn't a thing; Music is a Place! Sincerely, Richard Tabnik, Jazz Alto Saxophonist e-mail: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> WWW: <http://www.inch.com/~rctabnik> <http://www.newartistsrecords.com>
