If your department think, as your department clearly does, that percussion in renaissance music is an "add on" you may like to spend some time studying Syntagma Musicum Volumes I-II by Michael Praetorius. He spent almost as much time discussing and illustrating percussion as he does with the wind section but obviously you do not. I trust you have the appropriate authentic add on percussion instruments for those players who are doubling? Hint: a modern tambourine is NOT a renaissance tambourine. Kind regards, Alan M. Watkins
