Peavey is a very well known and reputable brand. It's claim to fame
in that model line is "bang for the buck" and "durability." If it's
in good shape, you should be able to talk em down to $225. If it's in
shoddy shape, talk em down even more. See if it's a Black Widow
model. The black widow is a nicer speaker than the Scorpion speaker,
so having that is worth some extra consideration. Black widows are
also very easy to fix if the speaker should ever blow.

Have you son go to check it out and so long as the speaker isn't blown
or bompy when he thumps a string and it's loud, pick it up...it'll
last a long long time. I got mine used in 1988 and just recently
passed it on to a neighbor kid who'll probably use it for another 10
years.

You're a good egg. :-)
