Hello:
Well.there have been a no.of qawalis after ZEENAT.And I have
personally heard them on record. But,I do not reckon them since they
lack that 'appeal' and have rejected them from a collector's angle. For
instance, only testerday I cam across a qawali from the film,DAWLAT KE
LIYE sung by Khurshid Pervez. But it lacks that 'appeal'.Now,coming to
your question,I feel the 2nd best qawali truly appealing is the Hafeez
Khan composed: Mera salam ley ja...from MERA SALAM ('57) rendered by
Bande Hasan/Rafi/chorus.

The first ever duet filmi duet of Rafi/Amirbai,I reckon is from ARAB
KA SITARA ('46) rendered by Amirbai/Rafi under the baton of Allah
Rakha. The record came on REGAL label. This was followed by some lovely
duets in SHAHNAZ ('48) tuned by Amirbai Karnataki herself! And this was
further followed by the BIKHRE MOTI('49) duet to be further followed
by the duet-chorus from JANMASHTAMI('50).
