One of the last times John Scofield was in town (NYC), he went into
the Sam Ash on 48th Street to get a new Digitech Whammy thing. He
couldn't get anyone in SA to give him to time of day, so he walked
across the street to one of the smaller shops (48th Street Custom
Guitars) and bought one.
There are some advanced players who don't live in musical
metropolises like NYC who probably do alright at the local SA/GC.
"Big fish, small pond" syndrome.
